My Asian Ball Joint dolls

The slightly ignored bigger siblings of the Littles. Plans were to have 2-3 tops, Shi Shi and a mini or two. I wanted the doll that became Lucifer first but couldn't find him and got Xavier, either way I would have got a matching girl. And some tiny dolls, you never count the its bitty baby tiny dolls. It just didn't stay that way but outside of one more tiny girl I feel the family is complete. Unless of course I find another tiny, but no more SDs and I highly doubt any more minis. They're presented in the order they joined the family. At the end are some scrapbook pictures of the dolls together. I did the face of everyone but Alistair.

Book reviews are at the bottom of the page.

Kodaishi Tenshi, or Shi Shi, Obitsu 60 2 part with a boy chest, Masterpiece Serenity eyes or Soom black spiders. He's considered "old style" because he's from 2006. Still with his original parts except for a shoulder joint, he's come by all his dings and stains honestly. If you're thinking about getting a first big doll big Obitsus are good because they're a lot like little Obitsus. They have magnets in heir feet which allow them to climb the fridge.

The year it snowed on us, waiting to see if it will happen again this year :)

Not liking the idea of getting a little brother, Xavier, Shi Shi was determined to stop X's delivery.

Here comes Shi Shi on the treadmill but his name isn't Shi Shi it is Spier-Man! Spider-Man! I don't recommend letting a resin do this because of their weight.

Shi Shi with his Xmas swap Beatle boots.

Toy hog with his Cpt Jack and Spidey plashes then getting in to the Dawn dolls.

Xavier Nocturne, Dollzone Fei Soom Luciferin eyes Monique Johnny wig, who opened the lid to Pandora's Box of Dolls. Custom doll #13 "born" on Halloween, perfect size, perfect everything. I debated getting a Fei or the vampire head when it came time to get him, the first factory face does no justice to them and the second isn't much of an improvement. I did his first face, he didn't like it and rolled his head off the work table and smudged it so I had to do the one he has now. He knows what's doing. Hi cross necklace is a door prize from the Volks Halloween Tea party

Working on the first face up he didn't like.

His birth day wearing Shi Shi's coat because I didn't have anything made in his size yet. This wig was already here, his regular one was in the mail.

If you tell people your doll is an angel of death they make him neat stuff for swaps.

Free standing on the magic kitchen table.

Shen Long the leafy sea dragon Little Walken and Bram brought home from the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Xavier's head plate, like his box, says "I'm Here".

The first idea for the Dollzone 1st anniversary contest with the wig that's too big for him, too small for the SDs, and has the hair on upside down to boot. The cat took care of that pair of wings.

Off we went to Kimberly Crest to take more pictures, but they were closed so we had to play in the garden and wish for shoes.

My sister took this picture and I posed and held Xavier. We won the integration prize and the BJD floodgates opened.

Wings take 2.

Taffy, Dollzone Recall 70. My poor white elephant. We don't bond like I have with some of the other dolls. Part of it I know is his size, small child, and part of it is me. He started with blue yes, Masterpiece Old World, to be Jareth's twin but wasn't happy. I traded some purple ones I didn't use on Jibriel for brown and livened him up a bit. As I win very few things, and this is the first with my sister, he's not going anywhere. His brown wig is a Monique BJ, the blond is a Jpop Winds.

Taffy's blank head. Recalls are a bit pinheaded, and were meant for 60cm bodies, so a wig with a bit of body looks best on them.

When I was at the 99 Cent store I saw a lumpy smile in the middle of a pile of plush keychains. He said his name was Sashimi and he lived with Taffy now.

Pebbles the poly cat inspecting Taffy's swap gifts.

Taffy trying on his disco suit. He can do the Bee Gees thing because the Gibbs have fraternal twins like he and Jareth. And I worked hard to embroider that jacket.

Jareth the Goblin King, Dollzone Recall, Masterpiece Blue Star eyes, Monique Star wig. Blah blah blah, bog of eternal stench. My sister's doll who lives in my room with his twin. Her idea to make him Jareth which started Taffy on his daytime Bowie thing that didn't quite work for him. Yup, that's an authentic replica necklace on him and the owl he got in a swap and doesn't want to take off. I say it's a bit of spoilage. Some times I get his pictures confused with Taffy's but Jareth has darker eye make up.

Rian putting the replica necklace on him. The chord is a black suede that might stain so I switched it out.

Playing with his shooter marble.

Real image caught at just the right angle. Shows the manicure he promptly scratched off.

Playing Labyrinth with baby Luci

This shirt used to be his mommy's

Luci, Orientdoll So Ji vampire with green Glastic Realistic eyes. She could have got a wig but I never got around to it and now I like her bald. When it comes to ABJs price and size don't necessarily go together as she cost abut as much as her father Lucifer. But it doesn't matter f she's cute, does it?

She's a big girl now and forgoes Re Ment Drug Store diapers for the American Kitchen potty chair.

I want baby fort! I want baby fort! And you didn't think she was that tiny.

With her father Lucifer.

With special buddy Dorobo Joe.

With big brother Xavier.

On her first birthday wanting the flooffy doggie in the living room. Yes, that's a sailfish ash tray that's never been smoked in.

This is the baby from an Only Hearts Club mama and baby dog.

Lucifer, Orientdoll Il vampire with Glastic Realistic violet eyes. The issue of Haute Doll with the Obitsu 60 in it had the introduction of the Oritentdoll line in it and I was smillen by the Il sculpt. By the time I found a US store that could get him for me they had the vampire version. His resin is translucent in places. He occasionally wears a wig but likes the bald Nosferatu look. Orientdolls are small minis and compare to Gene and Tonner dolls in size.

Wearing the outfit from a Trent Lover in Disguise doll.

Wearing an outfit I made for my Trent doll.

Jibriel, Dollzone Tintan with Dollzone eyes and a Monique wig. Xavier met a Felian girl at a meet up but didn't care for her sculpt so we went with a slightly startled Tintan as the other girl in stock had a slight smile that wouldn't go well with her husband's gloomy outlook on life. Check the scrapbook part at the end of the page for pictures from their wedding.

Comparison of girl and boy mini Dollzones. He needs those parts so they can make tiny dolls.

The magic kitchen table works again as Jib shows off her haunted housework apron. I love the idea of hanging ghosts out to dry.

The Build A Bear people once had a line called Friends 2B Made that gave us great stuff for our minis. The pillow for the bedding is plush angel wings.

The cow was only a temporary fix until she had her own tiny "baby".

A target coffin built for two but she didn't like it without padding and with it only one fits in.

It's hard to find pictures of Jibriel without Xavier, especially in matching outfits.

Door to door coffin salespersons.

Pookah, Fairyland Puki Sleeping Cupid. I got him as part of a group order where someone else wanted the awake face. Usually I don't like sleeping dolls but this little fellow's smile makes him look happy. You can't have a Puki without the Pukisha kitty parts and by only buying part of him I has able to save up for mittens, boots, and genie shoes as well. In all these pictures he's wearing clothes for Kelly and Tommy dolls.

Red and white worked for his boots and mittens

Re Ment snack time!

Good pukitty!

Alistair Nocturne, Felixdoll Brownie Haha punk. Xavier and Jibriel want children but finding face molds that look related to them is difficult. I spent months pondering which event Brownie I wanted then the Haha face turned up. I added spare hands for him and am pondering another Brownie or 10 to add to the hoard.

A perfect blend of his parents' molds.

From a tiny blanket swap

Lilly Nocturne, Dollzone Nani in white with Dollzone eyes and wig. This was my holiday prezzie who arrived in March 2011. The final nudge to get her was the free tiny, next entry. She's Xavier and Jibriel's daughter.

Dollzone Momo 2010 Christmas promotion doll in pink. A free doll is a free doll, I think I asked for the outfit instead of the face but I'm not complaining. For now Lilly treats her like a doll. She can share clothes with the other tines.

Too many tiny baby dolls? You'll have to tummy kiss your way out!

Ball Joint scrapbook

Pookah and Luci

Taffy and Jareth swapping wigs

Sometimes we ice to put on tights and sing David Bowie songs to all our stuffed animals.

The beauty of good stringing.

Bram and Shi Shi welcoming Xavier when he arrived on Oct 31, 2006, after I did his face and put his eyes in ofcourse.

Mardi Gras photo contest, didn't win but everyone enjoyed the idea.

From the photo story about the fight over who gets to sleep in the Pocky bag.

Unwrapping Taffy's head, after Shi Shi kicked the box a few times.

Yes, even doll wives can be fussy.

And for Halloween 2009 Michaels did make tiny wooden coffins and tombstones and did I still not know what to do with them except make the clank coffin like Xavier's so Alistair can be just like his daddy. This happens to be Pookah playing with them.

You know what? Baby butts.

Wearing MC Toys Paula clothes.

Not only do I have coffee jammies too but so do many of the Littles. Some week I'll take the time and dress us all in them and take a picture.

Nothing like light up pen light for reading a treasure map.

Xavier and Jibriel's wedding

Literally five minutes after I posed him at the window the UPS truck arrived.

Book reviews

Dollmaking books are on the book page of the encyclopedia, this is for books that are specifically for or very useful to Asian Ball Joints.

The BJD Orbyarium. If you know absolutely nothing about these dolls you might find this book interesting. If you own the doll on the cover then you'll want this. They're from the publisher of Haute Doll so it's like a big BJD only issue of the magazine. Don't let the listings fool you, there's very few patterns in here, for very specific dolls most people don't have, and the listing of BJD makers could be found with a bit of Googling. I'm really restraining myself from my feelings about this book, it could have done something to make these dolls look interesting and show the possibilities with them but instead most of the dolls fall in to the frilly gothic lolita glazed over look category. From personal experience that seems to be what most of the readers of doll magazines think and they're surprised to find out the dolls can look as normal as mine do.

Famous Coples by Hazel McMahon. If you have an Orientdoll and can't get a Trent or Mat O'Neil pattern to work from then this book is a good start. You'll need a way to enlarge the patterns 147%, see the encyclopedia page for the rest of the gripes, but it's better than nothing or enlarging Barbie patterns.
